Upcoming Events

ASGA events and fundraisers bring the Greater Akron Autism community together for education, networking, and fun. Events range from educational workshops to adapted community events to our largest annual fundraiser, Step Into Autism.

Events and fundraisers offer everyone in the Autism community, a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental place to learn, participate, and support ASGA. All money raised stays local to provide services to anyone impacted by Autism in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties.

iCan Bike Camp
Needs 80 Volunteers

80 volunteers are needed to make this 5-day camp a success.  Volunteers serve as spotters providing physical and emotional support and motivation to riders throughout the week as they learn to ride a two-wheel bike independently.

Keep It Sharp: Summer Skills for Success!

Summer is a great time to relax but also maintain essential skills. Studies show up to 60% of children with Autism experience skill regression during the break. Join Katie Henderson, Occupational Therapist from Bloom OT, for a virtual workshop with strategies to help keep skills sharp in students with Autism.

Medina County Parent Cafés: Unite Voices and Embrace Differences (3 Part Series)

Parents of children with Autism often face higher stress and isolation, with 45% reporting loneliness (Autism Speaks). This 3-part series offers a chance to connect and explore topics like Parental Resilience and Child Development. Registration is required. Attend all three sessions to enter a self-care gift basket giveaway.

Life Skills for Autism: Strategies for Every Stage

Many individuals with Autism struggle with household tasks like cleaning and organizing, with about 60% facing these challenges (Autism Speaks, 2017). These skills are key to building independence, but families often find them hard to teach effectively. In this webinar, Occupational Therapist Abby Carner, MS, OTR/L, will share practical strategies for teaching life skills at every developmental stage.

Water Safety Program

The Autism Society of Greater Akron created a water safety program in partnership with the Kohl Family YMCA that launched in September of 2017. Participants are taught one on one by a qualified instructor with the focus being water safety along with adapted, appropriate swimming skills specific to the participant.

VOICE Advocacy Series

VOICE: Virtual Opportunities for Inclusion, Connection & Empowerment

The Autism Society of Greater Akron hosts VOICE, a free monthly session on education, advocacy, and action. Each session offers expert insights and tools on topics like IEPs, healthcare, and disability rights. It’s open to anyone in the Autism community who supports inclusion.

Friendship Club

A social club for ages 7 to 12 offering a time for kids and parents to connect with peers. Meetings are in-person two Saturdays every month.

Must register to become a member of the club to receive additional meeting details.

A fun Social Club for Teens with ASD and other developmental disabilities age 13 to 17! Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Meetings are a mix between virtual and in-person.
