Halloween can be a challenging time for some individuals and families living with Autism and other developmental disabilities. The bright lights, loud noises, having to say “trick or treat” — what if you’re non-verbal — the social cues, changes in routine, and costumes that may be uncomfortable for sensory reasons. ASGA in partnership with Portage Park District (PPD) invites you to trick-or-treat in the park in a supportive, accessible environment. Wear a costume or not! Say trick-or-treat or not! We welcome you for YOU!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Fun for the entire family including parents/caregivers, siblings, and grandparents
  • Open to ALL ages and ALL disabilities
  • Park is open to the public with dogs required to be on leashes

COST

  • Free event
  • Registration is required with time slots available at 12-1 PM, 1-2 PM and 2-3 PM

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Free treat bag
  • Trick-or-treat with community partners along the ADA asphalt paved accessible trail
  • Strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs welcome
  • Take pictures at photo opportunity stations
  • Explore nature with hands-on items – bones, feathers, magnifiers, and mystery touch boxes
  • Families in attendance are entered for the chance to win an ASGA Activity Box – choose from Halloween or Holiday
  • Meet Owlbert, the Portage Park District Mascot
  • Rain date is Sunday, October 27
