Our 2023 Impact
Creating Connections
The Autism Society of Greater Akron experienced unprecedented growth in 2023 in almost every aspect of what we do. In fact, ASGA made connections for more than 33,000 individuals with Autism and their families the five counties we serve, empowering our local community more than ever with resources, support, education, and connections.
We’d like to share just a few highlights of 2023:
- HelpLine inquiries nearly doubled, providing information and referrals to local services for more individuals, parents/guardians, and professionals.
- Expanded Social Clubs for individuals with Autism to include ages 7-to-adults resulting in twice as many club members as the previous year.
- First Responders in our community will be trained in understanding Autism thanks to receiving our first Federal grant from the Department of Justice.
- Adapted Family Inclusive Events grew by 32%, connecting more families in a safe and supportive environment.
- A milestone of providing almost 4,000 water safety lessons was achieved as part of our water safety program.
- Due to ASGA’s advocacy, Ohio’s Missing Adult Alert system now includes Autistic individuals.
- Greater health equity was accomplished due to ASGA’s participation in a national Aging and Disability Vaccine Collaborative, supporting 1,000 individuals receiving vaccines with two adapted clinics, distribution of 3,300 educational materials and 250+ vaccine kits, and training five local healthcare partners in adapted techniques for the Autism population.
