Into the Wild at Sippo Lake Park

It’s no secret that children today spend little time outdoors compared to previous generations. This impacts their health, both physical and mental. Spending time in green spaces has been documented to help children of all abilities with stress reduction, attention and focus, and positive feelings. The Autism Society of Greater Akron (ASGA) in partnership with Stark Parks invites you to Into the Wild at Sippo Lake Park in a supportive, accessible environment. We welcome you to explore the Sippo Lake Campus and spend an afternoon outdoors!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

• Fun for the entire family including parents/caregivers, siblings, and grandparents
• Open to ALL ages and ALL disabilities
  
  

COST

• Free event
• An RSVP is appreciated for planning purposes.
• You may arrive throughout the event time. However, the event ends at 4PM, so allow plenty of time to enjoy the various activities at the park.
  
  

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Variety of nature based activities throughout the park area
• Be a naturalist for the afternoon! Bring your phone or device to participate in a Bioblitz, a citizen science activity. Use apps such as iNaturalist and Merlin to identify animals, insects, and plants at the park.
• Tour the Wildlife Conservation Center where animals are brought for rehabilitation. See some of the animals that have been rehabilitated, such as foxes and owls.
• Participate in a Scavenger Hunt, finding various living things throughout the park.
• Take a self-guided story hike on a short loop through the woods. The trail is less than ¾ mile and is flat with a crushed limestone surface, perfect for all.
• Play jumbo games such as Jenga and Connect Four.
• There is no rain date for this event. Should there be inclement weather, the park and the Wildlife Conservation Center will be open. Outdoor activities will be cancelled.
