ADVOCACY CORNER
So many parents cannot work outside their home because of their child's challenges. We urge you to send your comments to Medicaid to support paying parents to be providers, specifically as they relate to parents of minor children. Even if your children are grown, support parents who still struggle every day and send in your personal story!

Requesting Input for Appendix K Flexibilities

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) and the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) are seeking your feedback on the flexibilities provided through the Appendix K authority, during the Federal Public Health Emergency (PHE). Prior to the end of the PHE, the State of Ohio must make decisions about which, if any, flexibilities to seek approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to keep permanently in the three 1915(c) waivers administered by DODD.

Therefore, ODM and DODD are asking for public input on which flexibilities were effective.

* The specific flexibilities provided by Appendix K include, but are not limited to,
  • shared living and homemaker/personal care on the same day,
  • parents of minor children having permission to be paid providers,
  • onboarding flexibilities,
  • respite extensions, and
  • prior authorization flexibility.
The email addresses to send feedback are

ODM and DODD will compile all input for consideration and will share feedback through various means.

We thank our friends at the Arc of Ohio for this information!

HOLIDAY RECIPES FROM ASGA

From our Home to Yours: ASGA Holiday Recipes

This holiday season, we’ll be sharing favorite family recipes, the story behind them, and why they are important to us and our family memories.

Lisa Thompson, ASGA Programs Director

"We’ve been sharing ASGA employee family recipes and traditions. As a family living with autism, our traditions look a little different.  My son Jordan was surfing YouTube one day (big surprise) and came across a video using a silicone “Pigs in a Blanket” mold.  He promptly put it on his Christmas List (which is a miracle by itself) and it ended up under the tree. I modified the recipe so he could complete the tasks independently, so now he makes this appetizer every year for the Thompson Family Carpet Picnic on New Year’s Eve. Enjoy!"

ASGA OFN

About the Autism Society of Greater Akron

The Autism Society of Greater Akron's (ASGA) mission is to create connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. Parent volunteers of children with Autism founded ASGA in 1987. With nowhere to turn and a lack of information and support, they started ASGA to share information, educate themselves about Autism, and learn how to advocate for better outcomes for their children. They also worked locally to bring awareness and understanding of Autism to the community. ASGA serves Summit, Medina, Portage, Wayne, and Stark county communities.

ASGA is also a proud member of the Ohio Family Network (OFN), connecting people with disabilities and their families to local information and resources within their communities. We believe OFN provides opportunities to share ideas, find solutions to common challenges and inspire and strengthen each other
