News and Happenings- The Connection Is You

Our friend Katie is a great example of the connections you can make when you give a gift to the Autism Society of Greater Akron this giving season. WATCH THE VIDEO

After participating in iCanBike camp, Katie’s mom shared this with us.

We’ve tried for years to get Katie to ride a bike with no progress.  She always loved the idea of riding a bike but was scared by how it wouldn’t stay balanced.  She used training wheels but the bike would just lean to one side or the other. I think that the roller bike was one of the best parts about bike camp. It helped her be upright the way she needed to and the stability of it gave her the courage to ride the bike more than she had before.

The other part that made a huge difference was having her helpers.  She still talks about Heather and Gabe and the things they said to her during bike camp.”

The last two years we were unable to host iCanBike due to the pandemic but we have plans for not one but TWO bike camps in 2022, helping twice as many individuals! However, we can only do that with your support. Your donation of any amount, today through December 31, will be matched up to $20,000 and make double the impact on our community.

ASGA OFN

About the Autism Society of Greater Akron

The Autism Society of Greater Akron's (ASGA) mission is to create connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. Parent volunteers of children with Autism founded ASGA in 1987. With nowhere to turn and a lack of information and support, they started ASGA to share information, educate themselves about Autism, and learn how to advocate for better outcomes for their children. They also worked locally to bring awareness and understanding of Autism to the community. ASGA serves Summit, Medina, Portage, Wayne, and Stark county communities.

ASGA is also a proud member of the Ohio Family Network (OFN), connecting people with disabilities and their families to local information and resources within their communities. We believe OFN provides opportunities to share ideas, find solutions to common challenges and inspire and strengthen each other
