ASGA'S DIRECT SERVICE PROFESSIONALS

TRAINING IS FINALLY HERE

It is with great pleasure that the Autism Society of Greater Akron is releasing our first training series in working with and supporting individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

After many years of being asked for training by providers in “autism,” we decided to work with area professionals to develop a training based on the questions you have asked over the years.

Thanks to the Parent Coalition Heritage Fund for Adults with Special Needs, administered through the Akron Community Foundation, this training is being offered at a very affordable price and has been approved for six Continuing Professional Development Units OR a certificate of completion.

FOR RESIDENTS IN GROUP HOMES

ASGA is partnering with the Blick Center for #GivingTuesday to give holiday gifts to residents who live in group homes. With the shutdowns from COVID, residents in group homes have had a tough year, so from now until December 2, all donations will be used to spread some holiday cheer!

Every $25 donated gives a resident a gift "box" filled with recreational, essential, and entertainment items! There are 78 residents at The Blick Center, and our goal is to raise $2,000 so everyone can receive a special present! GIVE SO WE CAN GIVE! #GivingTuesday

Peer-to-Peer Support Groups                 COFFEE, TEA & AUTISM

Are you interested in meeting people who have also been impacted by autism? Join our online Facebook group or come to one of the Coffee, Tea & Autism meetings in your county!

 What parents are saying:

“I came to my first meeting looking for ways to be a better parent to my son with autism. And while I got that, this group became more than a class or just information. The group has helped me become a more confident mother. It is a safe place to share stories that other friends would not understand. We share both the joy of the advances and disappointment and fear of setbacks.  While everyone's experience is different, so much power comes from realizing you are not alone".

Upcoming Meetings:

Kent/Stow - Facilitated by Mary Richards, Friday, Nov 6 and Nov 20 at 7:00 PM Panera Bread in Stow

Ravenna - Facilitated by Trina Bullard, Tuesday, Nov 24 at 10:00 AM via Zoom
