ASGA Adapted Polar Express Train Rides

The Autism Society of Greater Akron (ASGA) has partnered with the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) for the second year to offer an Autism Friendly Polar Express for individuals with all different abilities and their families. This experience is part of ASGA’s disability inclusion efforts, which work with community partners to adapt practices and procedures to make it easier for people with autism and other disabilities to enjoy the many things our community offers. 

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?

• Reduced ticket prices make this favorite community event affordable for families
• Limited seating in each car creates a calm environment with reduced crowds and noise
• Rail cars chosen exclusively for ASGA riders with no additional foot traffic
• Quiet room available on Night Excursion for those needing a break
• Variety of seating options including tables
• Polar Express story is read to riders rather than broadcast over rail car speakers
• Trained ASGA volunteer elves are aboard to assist
• Social story provided so riders know what to expect
• Familys receive an Activity Pack to use as needed during idle time on the train
• No waiting in line to pick up tickets at the station as ASGA has their own table
• Every rider enjoys hot chocolate, cookie, silver bell, and a brief visit with Santa - no adaptions needed!

One bottle of water is provided for each rider, but please bring extra if needed.  Gluten free cookie option available when registering.

SEATING OPTIONS

We cannot guarantee which side of the train your seat will be on; however, each CHILD will have the opportunity to view the North Pole.

DOME:  Located on upper level of rail car. Seats are in sections of four, with two seats facing two seats. Each section offers an amply-sized table.

LOUNGE: Located on main level of rail car. Comfortably padded seats line the sides of a spacious lounge.

COACH: Located on main level of rail car. Seats are in sections of four, with two seats facing two seats and each section offers an amply-sized table.
