In 1987, four in 10,000 children had a diagnosis of Autism. Children with Autism were not yet allowed to go to their local school for an education. The word “Infantile Autism” was replaced with a more expansive definition of “Autism Disorder” and a UCLA psychologist published the first study showing how intensive behavior therapy could help children with Autism – giving new hope to parents.

And in 1987, pioneering parents from Akron, OH, called the Autism Society of America and asked to start a chapter to provide support and exchange ideas of how best to advocate for their children - and the Autism Society of Greater Akron was founded. We are proud to have been on the front lines for 35 years, expanding from an all-parent network to the organization we are today.

Help us celebrate the many individuals and families living with Autism that we help to find local resources, support, educational information and inclusive opportunities. We promise a magical time to look back at how far we have come, and to dream forward to where we need to be to give individuals with Autism every opportunity possible.

We need silent auction items! Here’s a few ideas:

• Own a business? Donate a service. (Examples: Year of Lawn Service, Hair, Nails, Massage)
• Eat out? Ask for a gift card or special experience like a private wine tasting.
