The Autism Society of Greater Akron is pleased to partner with Portage Park District for an Inclusive Pop-In Event at Towner's Woods. Portage Park District is on its way to becoming ASGA's newest Autism Friendly Community Partner with staff receiving ASGA's Stop.Assess.Support. training earlier this year.  

The park will provide binoculars and insect nets for participants to use to find and learn about birds and insects that live in Towner's Woods Park. Due to the pandemic, this will be a self-guided exploration, however staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions and explain how to use the equipment.

Families and individuals of all abilities are welcome! 

Do I need to register?

Yes!  Participants will need to register as equipment is limited.  During the registration process, you can choose a time slot to borrow either binoculars (1 set of binoculars per family) or insect nets (1 per person; maximum 3 per family). Equipment will be disinfected between users and free field guides for birds of Ohio and butterflies of Ohio will be given to each participant. A hands-on activity will also be available to take home.

Where do we meet?

Meet at the gazebo that sits near the beginning of the Lakeside Trail and is visible from the parking lot.  You can view maps and information about Towner's Woods Park prior to your arrival.

Safety Guidelines

For the safety of our staff and participants, we ask that you practice social distancing and wear facial masks while picking up your supplies. We understand that some individuals may have difficulty wearing a mask, but ask that attendees comply with the Governor's orders to the extent possible.
