WHAT IS iCAN BIKE?
This is a life changing camp that teaches individuals of many different abilities to ride a two-wheel bicycle independently. There are 5 sessions daily with 8 riders attending their same assigned session each day. This achievement helps these special people gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.
VOLUNTEER DUTIES
80 volunteers are needed to make this camp a success. Volunteers walk/lightly jog beside riders to help teach balance and provide emotional/motivational support. We encourage every volunteer to commit to working the entire week of the camp for the 75 minute session they select. Campers bond with their volunteers and rely on the same person to be there each day to help them learn to ride a bike.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 15 years-old, able to walk fast or jog for 75 minutes with short breaks. A five day commitment for a session time is appreciated, alternative schedules are considered.
Training provided at the Volunteer Orientation meeting on July 8 at 4pm at Copley High. No prior experience with people with disabilities necessary. You get a cool t-shirt too!
