ASGA events and fundraisers bring the Greater Akron autism community together for education, networking, and fun. Events range from the Annual Autism Summit Conference to sensory-friendly days with community partners to our largest annual fundraiser, the Autism 5k Run & Walk. Events and fundraisers offer families, caregivers, educators, other professionals, and individuals with autism a safe, comfortable place to be a part of the community and support ASGA's programs and services. Money raised for ASGA stays local to support those affected by autism in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne counties.

The holidays are special times when we invite family members and friends into our homes to share in our traditions of food, culture, celebration and religion. However, despite the weeks of ardent planning, the holidays can cause individuals with autism to experience sensory overload due to shifts in schedules, traveling, familiar foods and broken routines.

Dr. Carrie Cuffman, Behavioral-Developmental Pediatric Specialist with Cleveland Clinic Children’s, will offer suggestions to make the holiday enjoyable for everyone in the family, including your child with autism.

During this webinar, parents and caregivers will learn to:

  • Set family expectations.
  • Use social stories to facilitate new experiences for your child.
  • Create new autism-friendly traditions.
  • Build effective ideas for dealing with meltdowns.

Headshot Carrie CuffmanCarrie Cuffman, MD is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. She completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, a pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and a fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Dr. Cuffman specializes in autism spectrum disorder diagnosis and management, speech and language disorders, and developmental follow-up of NICU graduates. She sees patients at Stow-Falls Family Health Center and the Children’s Hospital for Rehabilitation (Shaker Heights).
