SURVIVING PUBERTY RECAP - Thank you to Rachel Torrance, M.Ed., BCBA, and Emily Brindza, M.Ed. from Accessing Abilities LLC who helped us better understand the many changes that occur when a girl or boy enters puberty and how individuals with autism can better manage those changes. “Pick a strategy that works,” stressed the presenters, “and use frequent, positive reinforcement when he/she completes a task correctly, i.e., using deodorant daily, bathing correctly, using feminine hygiene products properly, and brushing teeth and hair.”  Social stories, visual charts, video modeling and face-to-face modeling are available to assist a young teen in learning about hygiene. Ms. Torrance reassured participants that consistent repetition is the key to learning a new skill. WATCH THE VIDEO
