Emergency Preparedness & Autism: Building Inclusive Response Systems in Ohio

Join the Autism Society of Greater Akron (ASGA) and Ohio’s State Mass Care Coordinator, Matt Sturgeon, for an essential session on disaster and emergency preparedness tailored to the Autism community. This interactive presentation will help individuals with Autism, their families, caregivers, and professionals understand how Ohio’s emergency management system operates—and how they can play a role in making it more inclusive.

What you’ll learn:

  • How Ohio coordinates disaster response through its Emergency Management System.
  • Matt’s role in ESF6 – Mass Care, and how it supports people with access and functional needs.
  • The CMIST framework for inclusive emergency planning.
  • Strategies for establishing effective communication pathways for the autism community.
  • Opportunities to engage with ESF6 and contribute to emergency planning efforts.

Be part of the conversation that helps shape a safer, more responsive Ohio for individuals with Autism and their families.

Let’s work together to ensure no one is left behind in times of crisis.

Why Advocacy Matters

Advocacy transforms lives. According to the National Council on Disability, individuals with disabilities who engage in advocacy experience greater inclusion, improved access to services, and increased independence. Whether you’re navigating school systems or planning for adulthood, knowing your rights can make all the difference in living a full life.
