Preparing for School Success

Starting a new school year can bring unique challenges for students with Autism. Ensuring your student’s new teacher and educational team understands their strengths and challenges can help start the school year smoothly. During this workshop, we’ll work together to prepare your child for a successful school year ahead with interactive activities and guidance.

What to Expect:

• Parents prepare a One-Page Person-Centered Description
  Barb Sapharas from the Family Resource Network of Ohio will lead parents through this valuable tool to craft a personalized overview of their child’s strengths, preferences, and goals. This document can be shared with your child’s teacher and school team, ensuring they have a holistic understanding of your child’s needs.
• Students prepare an I’m Determined One-Page Description
  A tool designed to articulate what makes students unique and what support they need to thrive academically and socially.
• Make Fun Back-to-School Supplies
  Parents and children will have the chance to get creative together by decorating pencil pouches and filling with supplies from our supply bar!

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS EVENT

This event is tailored to parents and their children in grades K-8. The goal is to equip parents with personalized tools to advocate for their child’s needs at school while empowering students to express their uniqueness and academic/social support requirements through interactive activities.
