At the Autism Society Greater Akron, we speak to parents every day about chronic behaviors that are occurring either at home or school that are interfering with our child’s growth and learning. PBIS is a framework that school districts are adopting throughout the state of Ohio to support proactive approaches to ongoing behaviors.

We are proud to partner with State Support Team 8 to develop a workshop for parents and caregivers to learn more about PBIS and how it can be used at home.

Components of PBIS include identifying and teaching a small set of behavioral expectations, with a consistent response for both acknowledging appropriate behavior and correcting inappropriate behavior. Come learn more about this approach and how to make connections to the home setting.

You will want to attend this session to:

  • Understand aspects of the PBIS framework
  • Review Ohio Department of Education’s policy on PBIS
  • Develop expectations for your own home
  • Practice effective feedback on appropriate behaviors
  • Develop a plan for error correction

This series will include a “make and take” portion where participants will create materials for teaching behavioral expectations in their own home.

Childcare is provided for this workshop: Children of all ages are invited to participate in structured activities led by educators and volunteers during the workshop time. Parents must be registered for workshop to participate.

*This workshop is open only to parents/caregivers and is not open to professionals.  Minimum of 10 participants needed to hold this workshop.
