EVENT IS FULL - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED


Halloween can be a challenging time for some individuals and families living with Autism and other developmental disabilities.  The bright lights, loud noises, having to say "trick or treat" -- what if you're non-verbal -- the social cues, changes in routine, and costumes that may be uncomfortable for sensory reasons. The Autism Society of Greater Akron (ASGA) in partnership with Portage Park District (PPD) invite you to trick-or-treat in the park in a supportive, accessible environment.  Wear a costume or not!  Say trick-or-treat or not!  We welcome you for YOU!


WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Fun for the entire family including parents/caregivers, siblings, and grandparents
  • Open to ALL ages and ALL disabilities
  • Park is open to the public with dogs required to be on leashes

 

COST

  • Free event
  • Registration required with time slots available at 1-2 PM, 2-3 PM and 3-4 PM

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Free draw string treat bag
  • Trick-or-treat with community partners along the ADA asphalt paved accessible trail
  • Strollers, wagons, and wheelchairs welcome
  • Parents / Caregivers get information on local resources
  • Take pictures at photo opportunity stations
  • Explore nature with hands-on items - bones, feathers, magnifiers, and mystery touch boxes
  • Families in attendance are entered for the chance to win an ASGA Acitivity Box - choose from Halloween or Holiday
  • Meet Owlbert, the Portage Park District Mascot
  • Rain date is Sunday, October 23

Dedicated to helping those with disabilities apply for Social Security benefits

Echoing Connections

Get Air Trampoline Park
Tampoline Park offering a dedicated time just for jumpers with special needs on the first Saturday of every month from 8 AM to 10 AM.

Greater Ohio Area SuperKids Classic
Greater Ohio Area SuperKids Classic, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to ensure a safe and organized soap box derby race for children aged 7 to 18 who deserve the opportunity to feel the thrill of racing at Akron Derby Downs.

I Am Boundless
After School and Adult Day Programs for IDD/Autism and other Behavior Health Challenges
Ages Served:  School Age (5 - 14), Transition (14 - 21), Adult (18 - 65), Aging (over 65)

Julie Billiart Schools
Julie Billiart Schools, a private, Catholic network of K-8 schools in Akron, Lyndhurst, and Westlake, educate and empower children with mild to moderate autism, ADD/ADHD, and other learning and social differences.
Ages Served:  School Age (5 - 14)

KidsLink
At KidsLink, we have a full team of professionals to link the pieces of treatment, for total care of your child. We believe that children with neurological and psychological diagnoses need a coordinated team of medical and related service professionals to provide total care for their diverse needs.
Ages Served:  Early Childhood (Birth - 5), School Age (5 - 14), Transition (14 - 21)

Legal Community Aid
Screening for those seeking legal assistance -Legal information, advice, and representation for qualifying clients -Community education on legal issues - Public advocacy and awareness of the needs of low-income individuals and families - Continuing legal education workshops and trainings for attorneys, social workers, and other collaborative partners - Partnership with and training for community organizations who work with the poor so that they may better serve their clients
Ages Served:  Adult (18 - 65)

LLA Therapy
Working directly with clients and their families, LLA Therapy provides custom action plans for every client, taking advantage of one or all of our comprehensive list of services including behavior, occupational, physical, reading, and speech therapy.

DD Services for Portage County

Portage Park District Foundation
The Portage Park District Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was established in 2010 with the purpose of supporting the Portage Park District.
Ages Served:  Early Childhood (Birth - 5), School Age (5 - 14), Transition (14 - 21), Adult (18 - 65), Aging (over 65)

 

Portage Path Behavioral Health
Portage Path Behavioral Health guides people on the path to recovery from mental illness and related substance use issues, empowering them to rebuild their lives and restore hope.
Ages Served:  Adult (18 - 65)

REM Ohio / Ohio Shared Living
Assisting Individuals with Developmental Disabilities live as Independently as possible
Ages Served:  Transition (14 - 21), Adult (18 - 65)

The Mobile Barber
Provides hair cuts to individuals with disabilities through his mobile barbershop. He comes to you!
Ages Served:  Early Childhood (Birth - 5), Transition (14 - 21), Adult (18 - 65), Aging (65+)

 

United Disability Services
UDS provides and supports inclusive, life-enriching options through person-centered programs and advocacy.
