ADVOCACYAutism CARES Act Needs Your Voice - Take Action HERE The Autism CARES Act has helped screen, diagnose, and treat Autism more effectively since it started in 2006. With the rise in Autism diagnoses, it's clear we need to keep up our efforts to renew this act. The act was last updated in 2019 and needs to be renewed by September 30, 2024. If we don't act in time, we could lose all the good programs and progress we've made. We're asking Congress to: Renew the Autism CARES Act and give it more money to keep up the great work. Make sure the act helps Autistic people who have trouble communicating. Offer breaks and special training for people who take care of Autistic individuals. Do more research to help Autistic people with their medical and behavioral needs, making their lives better. Look into why Autistic people might not live as long. Provide more legal help for Autistic people facing unfair treatment. Contact your Senators and Representatives today and urge them to support the reauthorization and enhancement of the Autism CARES Act. Your advocacy can make a difference in the lives of millions. Autism Society of Ohio ASO thanks Rep. Gick for introducing House Bill 321 to establish a statewide 911 special needs database to improve safety outcomes. The bill would permit individuals with Autism and other disabilities to register to be included in a 911 database that identifies specific needs to improve outcomes of care. Importantly, 911 responders would be made aware of sensory, communication, medical, or allergy-related circumstances that could be the difference between life and death. READ COMMENTS About the Autism Society of Greater Akron The Autism Society of Greater Akron's (ASGA) mission is to create connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. ASGA serves Summit, Medina, Portage, Wayne, and Stark county communities. ASGA is also a proud member of the Ohio Family Network (OFN), connecting people with disabilities and their families to local information and resources within their communities. We believe OFN provides opportunities to share ideas, find solutions to common challenges and inspire and strengthen each other. |
