Look for the SPRING Schedule

On the Town is an educational series that works to build social skills, interaction with peers, and recreational and leisure activities, all while exploring community-based activities.  The six-week series will be open to “transition youth” - teens and young adults, ages 14-24.

On the Town is staffed by educational professionals (Special Education Teacher, Intervention Specialists, autism trained Paraprofessionals).  There is a 1:3 and 1:4 staff/participant ratio with high school peer volunteers to assist each week.  Sessions are limited to 10 participants per session.

Individuals who are able to participate safely in the program, but require individual assistance with communication, behavior support, or daily living activities, can have paraprofessional attendance approved so the participant may have the most inclusive experience possible. For more information, email us HERE or call her at 330-940-1441.  The Autism Society Greater Akron is committed to making each participant’s experience positive and rewarding, and like all of our programs, is conducive to the entire "spectrum" of autism or individuals with other different abilities.

PEOPLE WE THANK

We would like to thank and acknowledge the follow people and organizations who helped us with this program:

  • Dr. Temple Grandin, who told us at last year's Autism Summit to "get out there!"
  • Sister affiliate, the Autism Society of Minnesota, which shared information about their "town" program and the materials that go with it
  • Our community partners, who opened their doors to us!

All we have to do now is....GO!!!
