GRANDPARENTS DECIPHER AUTISM BEHAVIORS RECAP

Individuals with autism may exhibit signs and behaviors that can be unnerving or confusing to some. Many behaviors, however, serve a purpose for the individual. For instance, rocking may calm the heightened sensory input in a child with autism, or aggressive behavior from a non-verbal child could signal frustration in his/her inability to communicate a need. Though some behaviors are a form of communication, not all behaviors are meant as a message. Jocelyn Eskanazi, BcCBA, helped us to understand the roots of some of our grandchildren’s behaviors by emphasizing that some behaviors are self-regulatory, others can be sensory-seeking and still others can be simply self-expression.

Next meeting on March 28, 2022. Topic:  Establishing Expectations for Your Grandchild with Autism. REGISTRATION WILL OPEN SOON!
