DID YOU KNOW?

  • Horses can sleep laying down or standing up, but many sleep standing.
  • They live to be about 30 years old.
  • Horses are measured in “hands”. One hand equals 4 inches and the average horse is 16 hands tall.  How tall is that?
  • A male (boy) horse is called a stallion, a female (girl) horse is called a mare, and a baby horse is called a foal.
  • Horses have around 205 bones in their skeleton.
  • They have bigger eyes than any other mammal that lives on land.
  • Because horse’s eyes are on the side of their head they are capable of seeing nearly 360 degrees at one time.
  • You can tell how a horse is feeling by looking at the position of their ears.  Droopy ears mean the horse is calm and resting.
  • Horses are able to sense emotion from humans, which makes them great therapy animals!
